We’ve all been there….”I’m SO busy!! I can’t possibly squeeze one more thing into my day! The kids are going in different directions to their activities, my husband is out of town a lot, my job is nuts and then there is the housework….ACKKK!”

Sound familiar?

I have not come across one client or friend for that matter that has said “wow, I have so much extra time on my hands, I think now would be the perfect time to lose  weight and get in shape”.  Every single one of my clients has had the same impossible time restraints: family, career, housework, volunteering, pets, aging parents and sometimes their own illnesses.

And you know something else?  I was that person – for years and years. I said, “I’m too tired, I’m too busy”. Nobody has time in this crazy life we all live, especially parents with kids at home. But…here’s the thing…..we have to MAKE time for the important things in life. We would make time for something that would benefit our kids, right?

It’s the mom phenomenon; putting ourselves last on the list of priorities.

So, what to do?  How do we MAKE time?  Well if I could tell you how to make time, I’d be a very rich lady!! There are only 24 hours in the day after all.  It’s about making YOU and YOUR HEALTH a priority.  Start scheduling YOU into your crazy schedule, just like you would a dental appointment for your child. You wouldn’t skip that, would you?

Healthy eating is the first step to improving your health. Begin planning your suppers according to your busy schedule.  Dust off your slow cooker, check Pinterest for fast and healthy meal ideas and always stock your fridge with fresh ingredients. If you have healthy foods at your fingertips, that is what you will choose. If you have healthy and easy recipes at the ready, you will cook healthy food. I find that planning and prep for the next day takes me about 15 minutes the night before, then 10 minutes to pull together a healthy lunch for the next day. And remember, it doesn’t have to be gourmet! I think we get bogged down thinking meals have to look like they were made by Martha Stewart. They don’t! Lunch can be Greek yogurt and berries with a side of baby carrots and hummus.

Once you start eating a cleaner and healthier diet, you will have more energy too! Then you can add regular exercise into your schedule.  Here’s a tip: set your alarm 30 minutes earlier in the morning.  It might be a challenge getting up early to begin with, but before long you will be doing it out of habit.

Morning exercisers are statistically more consistent with their habits. And guess what follows?  Your body starts to CRAVE healthy foods, lots of water and more protein which is exactly what it needs to be trim and healthy.

As moms, we are our own worst enemies. We spend all our time taking care of everyone else first and not taking care of ourselves.  Well, I don’t know about you, but I plan on being around for a very long time so that I can enjoy all the things that are important to me.  If I don’t take care of myself, that may not happen and if I put it off too long, I may not get a second chance.

So start today. Schedule YOU time into your calendar. Make your health a priority so that you can continue to be a great mom and a wonderful wife and friend.  You are WORTH it 🙂
